St. Gabriel, La. (WAFB) — A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of fiber optic cables, which left residents in St. Gabriel and Sunshine without cable and internet services for months.

According to the St. Gabriel Police Department, the suspect, Gregory Doster, faces charges of felony theft and felony criminal damage to property. The theft occurred in August and September 2024, causing significant disruption to local residents’ cable and internet access. AT&T reported damages totaling approximately $51,000 due to the stolen cables.

During the investigation, Doster was identified as a suspect, and a warrant for his arrest was issued. However, after learning of the pending arrest, Doster fled Louisiana. Authorities in Iowa were able to apprehend him, and he was subsequently transported back to Iberville Parish.

On Saturday, April 19, Doster was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail. Following the arrest, St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau issued a warning to potential offenders, urging them not to commit similar crimes in the future.
