Gregory and Spencer Kain Arrested in Major Drug Trafficking Bust

Father and son charged with trafficking heroin, fentanyl, and more

Newton, N.C. (FOX26) — A father and son from Newton, Gregory Shawn Kain (56) and his son Spencer Shawn Kain (27), have been arrested following a major drug bust by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers.

On Monday, March 10, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Gregory Kain on N.C. Highway 16 South in Denver, citing a regulatory violation. During the stop, investigators seized a significant amount of drugs and cash. The seizure included 31.5 grams of fentanyl, 362 dosage units of alprazolam, 1.6 grams of crack cocaine, 3.1 grams of powdered cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and over $9,100 in cash.

Both father and son face a range of charges, including trafficking opium or heroin, trafficking by maintaining a vehicle, possession with intent to sell or deliver various controlled substances, and felony possession of cocaine, among others.

The Kains were taken to the Catawba County Detention Facility, with Gregory Kain’s bond set at $500,000 secured, and Spencer Kain’s bond set at $600,000 secured. They were due in court on March 11 in Newton and have since been transferred to Alexander County.
