CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A York couple is behind bars after allegedly attempting to scam a Cambria County woman out of $10,000 by pretending she had won a Publishers Clearing House prize.

According to a criminal complaint, Gregg Kerr and Shantie Brady, both 31, were arrested after police caught them trying to collect a box containing cash from the victim’s apartment balcony.

The incident began on May 14 when the victim contacted 911, suspecting she had been scammed over several days. She told police that someone calling himself “Bill Rogan” claimed she had won $8.5 million, but to receive the prize, she had to follow specific instructions—including placing $10,000 in an unmarked box and leaving it outside.

State Police set up surveillance near the victim’s home in Ebensburg Borough. A silver 2017 Mercedes-Benz pulled up, and Kerr was seen retrieving the box. Officers immediately intervened and arrested both Kerr and Brady, who were in the vehicle along with three children.

Both suspects were taken to Cambria County Prison, where they are being held on 10% of $500,000 bail each. They face multiple charges including theft by deception, loitering and prowling, receiving stolen property, and endangering the welfare of children.

Preliminary hearings for Kerr and Brady are scheduled for May 20.
