Greenwood Police Officers Exposed to Fentanyl During Arrest

Four arrested, officers hospitalized after traffic stop exposure

GREENWOOD, La. (KSLA) — Three officers from the Greenwood Police Department (GPD) were hospitalized after potentially being exposed to fentanyl during a traffic stop on April 20, 2025.

The incident began when GPD officers stopped a vehicle that had no visible license plate. During the stop, they discovered that two of the car’s occupants, Jackson Strickland and Bobby Wayne Davis, had active warrants for their arrest.

The vehicle’s driver, Eric Mainous, allegedly attempted to hide a baggie of white powder, leading officers to recover several more baggies and straws containing a powdery residue. Fentanyl test strips were also found, indicating the possible presence of fentanyl.

As the officers returned to the station with all four occupants in custody, the first officer began feeling ill, suspected to be from fentanyl exposure. Soon after, two other officers also began showing symptoms and were taken to a local hospital. Two of the officers were released after treatment, while one was admitted for further care.

The suspects—Mainous, Strickland, Davis, and Briauna Provost—were booked at the Caddo Correctional Center on charges of possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Two of the suspects, Davis and Strickland, were also arrested on their outstanding warrants.

The investigation is ongoing, and the safety of officers remains a top priority as fentanyl continues to pose significant risks to law enforcement.
