Hyderabad: The Domalguda Police have arrested Parvathi Shankara Matam Govardhan (27), a caretaker, for allegedly attacking an elderly couple and robbing gold ornaments from their residence in Heritage Apartments, Himayath Nagar.
According to officials, 6.7 tolas of gold — including four bangles and a mangalsutra — along with a mobile phone were recovered from the accused.
The incident came to light on October 13, when Joginapalli Sreedhar Rao filed a police complaint after discovering his elderly in-laws injured and their valuables missing. Govardhan, who had been working as a caretaker since November 2024, had gone missing since October 12.
A police investigation revealed that Govardhan had attacked the elderly couple with a pestle, causing serious injuries before fleeing with the gold. He was eventually tracked down to Kunderu in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.
During interrogation, Govardhan confessed to the crime and admitted he committed the robbery to fund online betting and personal vices. He had pledged a portion of the stolen gold at Muthoot Finance in Kankipadu for Rs3.25 lakhs.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
