Timothy Riley, a Gorham man, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.
According to court documents, Riley committed the robbery at Gorham Savings Bank on Sokokis Trail in Waterboro in June 2024. He showed a gun to a teller, demanding money before fleeing the scene on a dirt bike. Although York County Sheriff’s Office deputies quickly spotted Riley, he attempted to escape, leading them on a chase. Eventually, Riley went off-road, and authorities lost sight of him.
After the robbery, investigators recovered a handgun and a dark-colored baseball cap, both of which Riley had been seen wearing during the heist. Later that evening, Riley was arrested and admitted to committing the robbery, citing his financial debt as the motivation.
Riley’s criminal history includes past convictions for burglary and robbery, as well as a federal conviction for interfering with commerce by robbery, which prohibits him from legally possessing a firearm.
Riley will be sentenced at a later date.
