MANCHESTER, N.H. — A Goffstown man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after allegedly assaulting two dispatchers at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Goffstown Police Department, the incident began around 3:45 p.m. Saturday when 50-year-old Cory Nickerson approached a dispatcher in the sheriff’s office parking lot just before she was to start her shift. The dispatcher felt uneasy and asked Nickerson to step away.
Unbeknownst to the dispatcher, Nickerson followed her through the secured entrance into the dispatch center. Police say he was repeatedly asked to leave the building over the loudspeaker.
Two other dispatchers came to assist and tried to remove Nickerson from the premises. At that point, Nickerson allegedly assaulted both dispatchers before fleeing.
Authorities deployed a drone to track Nickerson as he got into a vehicle, but a brief pursuit was called off for safety reasons.
Nickerson was apprehended around 3 p.m. Sunday and is currently held on preventive detention. He is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
He faces several charges including disobeying a police officer, criminal threatening, false imprisonment, two counts of simple assault, and criminal mischief.
Sgt. Jonathan Babcock of the Goffstown Police noted this is the first time a dispatcher has been directly targeted in his tenure but said it remains unclear if the encounter was random. The investigation is ongoing.
