In a major anti-narcotics operation late Tuesday, January 20, Goalpara Police intercepted a vehicle along National Highway-17, seizing a massive consignment of 4,000 Yaba tablets and apprehending the accused, Sirajul Islam, a resident of Krishnai.
The operation, conducted near Bhimajuli under Agia Police Station limits, involved personnel from Agia Police Station and Goalpara Town Police under the supervision of Co-District Police Officer Abhilash Baruah and Deputy Superintendent of Police Alangkrita Saikia. During the raid, police also confiscated a Swift Dzire (registration AS-01BB-7144) used to transport the drugs.
The seized Yaba tablets are valued at over Rs4 lakh in the illegal market. Preliminary investigations suggest Sirajul Islam may be part of a larger drug trafficking network, and authorities are probing additional links in the supply chain.
Officials praised the operation as a reflection of Goalpara Police’s sustained efforts to dismantle organized narcotics networks and curb drug trafficking in the region.
