Goalpara Police Arrest 10 Bike Thieves, Recover Stolen Motorcycles

Eight Stolen Motorcycles Recovered, Investigation Continues into Racket

by Ananya Mehta

In a significant crackdown against vehicle theft, Goalpara Police have arrested ten bike thieves across two separate operations, marking a major breakthrough in curbing vehicle theft in the district. The police also recovered eight stolen motorcycles as part of these arrests, signaling a major step toward disrupting organized vehicle theft in the region.

The first operation, led by the Inspector-in-Charge of Goalpara Police Station, resulted in the arrest of four bike thieves, along with the recovery of five stolen motorcycles believed to have been taken from various locations. In a subsequent operation, the Matia Police Station team, led by the OC, apprehended six seasoned bike thieves, who were allegedly involved in numerous vehicle thefts. They also found three stolen motorcycles in their possession.

Further investigations are underway to trace additional stolen vehicles and uncover the full scope of the racket, including identifying potential buyers or accomplices connected to the crime.

In a separate incident earlier last week in Guwahati, Divyajyoti Saikia, a notorious car thief, was shot by police during an operation in the Jorabat area. Saikia attempted to flee by attacking the police during their operation, forcing officers to open fire in self-defense. The accused was hit in the leg and was subsequently apprehended. The Basistha police were on their way with Saikia for the operation when the incident occurred.
