In a major crackdown on vehicle theft, Goalpara Police achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting ten bike thieves in two separate operations and recovering eight stolen motorcycles. These arrests mark an important step in curbing organized vehicle theft in the district.
During the first operation, a team from Goalpara Police Station, led by the Inspector-in-Charge, successfully raided a location and arrested four suspects. Five stolen motorcycles, believed to be taken from various areas, were recovered.
In a similar incident, officers from Matia Police Station, under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge, apprehended six experienced bike thieves who were allegedly involved in multiple theft cases. Three stolen motorcycles were seized from the group.
Further investigations are ongoing to trace additional stolen vehicles and identify potential buyers and accomplices involved in the racket.
Meanwhile, a dramatic incident unfolded last week in Guwahati’s Jorabat area. Police shot and injured a car thief, Divyajyoti Saikia, who attempted to flee after attacking officers. The Basistha police were escorting the suspect when he launched an attack during the operation. In self-defense, the officers opened fire, hitting the suspect in the leg.
