Goa Cyber Crime Police have arrested Arhasad Aiyyub Shaikh, a 23-year-old man from Surat, Gujarat, for allegedly orchestrating a cyber fraud worth Rs97 lakh. Shaikh reportedly impersonated officials from TRAI and the CBI using multiple WhatsApp numbers, coercing a resident of North Goa into transferring the large sum by threatening a “digital arrest.”

The scam involved linking the victim’s SIM card to fabricated human trafficking allegations, intensifying the threat. Investigations revealed that the accused’s account was connected to several similar cybercrimes across Maharashtra, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, and Goa, amounting to a total fraud of Rs1.2 crore.

Authorities continue to probe the extent of Shaikh’s cybercriminal network.
