FORT WORTH, TX — A young mother was shot and killed by her husband over Labor Day weekend at a Fort Worth home where the couple and their children were temporarily staying, police said.
Glenda Maria Aguilera Rubio, 21, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head early Saturday morning. Her husband, 29-year-old Josue Bayardo Rodas, was arrested hours later after driving nearly 200 miles west to Sweetwater, Texas, where he called 911 and confessed to the killing.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers arrived at the home in the 2600 block of Yeager Street at around 7:30 a.m. and found Rubio lying on a bed in the kitchen, already deceased. A resident of the home told detectives that Rubio and Rodas had been staying there after a dispute with other family members — during which Rodas allegedly pointed a gun at them.
The witness said the couple planned to leave the state soon. On Friday night, Rodas and Rubio had been drinking with another resident of the house. The female resident recalled going to bed around 1:30 a.m., and was later awakened by Rubio’s two young daughters, ages 4 and 6, who said their mother had “blood on her.”
When the woman checked, she found Rubio unresponsive and covered in blood. Rodas and Rubio’s black Toyota Corolla were missing. Surveillance footage captured a similar car leaving the area around 4 a.m.
Rodas was located around 9 a.m. in Sweetwater, where he told police at a gas station that he had committed a homicide. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Nolan County Jail before being transferred back to Fort Worth. As of Tuesday, he remains in the Tarrant County Jail without bond.
A GoFundMe page set up for Rubio’s funeral stated she leaves behind her two young daughters.
