BRIDGETON, N.J. – A former school custodian in New Jersey has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple disturbing offenses, including tampering with food and possessing child sexual abuse material.

Giovanni Impellizzeri, 25, was employed by the Upper Deerfield School District when he secretly recorded himself contaminating food meant for students and staff with cleaning products and bodily fluids during October and November 2023. He reportedly shared the videos in an online chat group, prompting swift outrage and a criminal investigation.

Prosecutors charged him with aggravated assault, food tampering, attempted endangering, and official misconduct. During the investigation, authorities also discovered that Impellizzeri possessed and distributed child sexual abuse material, leading to additional charges.

He was sentenced to eight years in state prison, with a minimum of five years before becoming eligible for parole. Upon release, Impellizzeri will be placed under parole supervision for life.

Officials have not reported any illnesses from the tampered food, but the incident has shaken the community and raised concerns about background checks and monitoring in school environments.
