Two Montgomery County residents, Gina Marks, 52, of Huntingdon Valley, and Steve Nicklas, 40, of Jenkintown, have been arrested for allegedly running a fortune-telling scam that defrauded victims of more than $600,000.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Marks and Nicklas operated a business called Jenkintown Psychic Visions, where they allegedly convinced clients that they were cursed and needed costly rituals for “spiritual cleansing.”
The investigation began after one victim sought a psychic reading and was told that a dangerous curse threatened her marriage, business, and family. Over 11 months, from September 2022 to August 2023, the victim reportedly handed over cash, jewelry, designer clothing, concert tickets, and gift cards totaling nearly $596,000.
A second victim later came forward, claiming Marks demanded personal photos, money, and luxury items—including a Chanel purse—to remove supposed negative energy. Investigators say Marks also threatened the victim’s reputation if she failed to comply, resulting in a loss of at least $18,000.
Financial records from Cash App, Zelle, and a credit union linked the victims’ funds directly to accounts belonging to Marks and Nicklas.
“These defendants preyed on people seeking help and guidance, exploiting their trust for financial gain,” said District Attorney Kevin Steele. “They will now be held accountable.”
Both Marks and Nicklas face multiple felony charges, including Corrupt Organizations, Dealing in the Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, and Theft by Unlawful Taking. They were arrested on Tuesday and are awaiting further court proceedings.
