ROME, N.Y. — Two Rome women are facing felony charges after an alleged under-scanning theft scheme at a local Walmart led to the loss of over $1,000 in merchandise, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol.
The incident was first reported on Wednesday, July 2 at 8:05 p.m., when deputies responded to the Rome Walmart for a larceny complaint. Store staff informed police that an employee had been under-scanning items on multiple occasions for the same customer.
After an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit, authorities arrested:
Gina A. Lavine, 33
Susan M. Pratt, 49
Both women were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony under New York State law.
Arrest & Processing
Lavine and Pratt were processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and issued appearance tickets. They were released and are scheduled to appear in Rome City Court at a later date.
