In a major blow to inter-state drug trafficking, a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police and the Coochbehar District Police led to the seizure of 439.7 kilograms of ganja from a heavy goods vehicle on Tuesday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the team intercepted the vehicle at the Raidhak Bridge Naka Point, under Tufanganj Police Station jurisdiction in West Bengal.

The truck, bearing registration number GJ 06 AU 8470, was driven by Gill Gurdeo Singh (39), a resident of Vadodara, Gujarat. Upon inspection—conducted under videography and in the presence of the Joint Block Development Officer (BDO) of Tufanganj—police found the massive consignment of ganja hidden in secret compartments at the vehicle’s base.

Singh was arrested on the spot after failing to explain the origin and intent of the illicit cargo. During interrogation, he confessed that the ganja was sourced from Manipur and destined for Jharkhand, indicating a well-established supply route.

A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Tufanganj Police Station, and further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the operation.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to disrupting drug supply chains and strengthening inter-state cooperation to fight narcotics trafficking.
