Ghaziabad police apprehended two men wanted for murder following a gunfight on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway. The suspects, Afsar and Shahzad, each had a bounty of Rs 25,000 on their heads and were caught with weapons and a stolen motorcycle.
Authorities seized the stolen motorcycle, an illegal pistol, a spent cartridge, and a live cartridge during the arrest. Both accused are residents of Ankur Vihar and have a history of criminal activity.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ankur Vihar, Gyan Prakash Rai, stated that police received a tip-off regarding the suspects traveling on a motorcycle from Garhi Kattaiya towards the Sabhapur underpass. When officers signaled them to stop, the suspects did not comply. Afsar, riding pillion, fired at police before attempting to flee.
In the ensuing retaliatory firing, Afsar sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. Both men were detained at the scene, and Afsar was later hospitalized for treatment.
Police investigations revealed that Afsar has over a dozen cases registered in various states for robbery and theft, with further details of their criminal records still being gathered.
