ACCRA, Ghana — The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals accused of running fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.
According to a statement from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) dated October 13, 2025, the arrests took place in two separate operations at Sogakope in the Volta Region and Haatso in Accra.
The first operation, carried out on October 1, 2025, led to the arrest of six suspects at Sogakope: Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — three men and three women.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had created fake websites and social media pages impersonating well-known food brands. Victims who ordered food through these fraudulent platforms were asked to make advance payments via mobile money, only to receive nothing in return.
The police further disclosed that some suspects gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the guise of assisting them with payments, later withdrawing funds without consent.
Digital devices believed to have been used in the scam were seized and are undergoing forensic analysis.
A follow-up operation on October 12, 2025, led to the arrest of four more suspects at a hideout in Haatso, Accra. They have been identified as Elijah Sotama Etse (alias Pop Smoke and described as the leader of the syndicate), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli.
Police recovered twelve mobile phones from the suspects for forensic examination. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to trace other accomplices and recover funds from the victims’ losses.
