ACCRA, GHANA – The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a notorious Nigerian drug kingpin, Uchechukwu Chima, in an intelligence-led operation in Accra.
The 56-year-old was apprehended on March 18, 2025, after authorities discovered 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin at his hideout in Oyarifa, Accra. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of $2.1 million.
NACOC Confirms Major Drug Bust
Francis Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, confirmed the arrest in a statement on March 19.
“Field tests confirmed the seized substances as cocaine and heroin. The suspect, Uchechukwu Chima, has been a key player in previous drug-related seizures and arrests in Ghana,” the statement read.
Chima’s Role in Drug Operations
Authorities say Chima has been a longtime target of NACOC and is believed to be the mastermind behind several past drug smuggling operations in the country.
His arrest marks a significant victory in Ghana’s fight against international drug trafficking.
Authorities’ Commitment to Drug-Free Ghana
NACOC emphasized its dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes and making Ghana an unprofitable hub for drug trafficking.
“By removing these drugs from the streets, we have saved millions of lives that could have been destroyed by cocaine and heroin abuse,” the statement added.
Chima remains in custody as investigations continue. Authorities are working to uncover potential links to larger drug syndicates operating across West Africa.
