Police arrested seven individuals, including four members of an organised gang, from a secluded area in Pannuchak under Ghogha police station in Kahalgaon sub-division on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the theft of 20 e-rickshaws.
The accused reportedly dismantled the stolen e-rickshaws and sold their parts, including batteries, to buyers in the grey market. Three of those arrested were identified as buyers of the stolen parts.
SDPO Kahalgaon, Kalyan Anand, stated that several items were recovered at the site, including 20 e-rickshaws, 33 batteries, and other spare parts. The arrested gang members were Gautam Kumar, Piyush Kumar, Rahul Kumar, and Vidhi Vurudh Balak from Pannuchak locality. The buyers, Premjit Kumar alias Chunna, Shivpujan Kumar, and Amarjeet Kumar alias Rakesh Kumar, were apprehended from Mahadevapura village under Sanhoula police station.
The SDPO added that the gang operated across Bhagalpur district, targeting e-rickshaws and similar vehicles, dismantling them, and selling the parts illegally. An FIR has been registered at Ghogha police station, and further interrogations are underway to identify and apprehend more gang members.
