Miami Beach, FL — A late-night altercation led to the arrests of two men after a confrontation that started at a 7-Eleven and escalated outside a McDonald’s on Washington Avenue.
Surveillance footage shows 40-year-old Harris entering a 7-Eleven at 11:06 p.m. Tuesday, briefly leaving, and then 33-year-old Ghaffar exiting moments later. Just after 11:07 p.m., security cameras captured a struggle between the two near the entrance of McDonald’s at 1650 Washington Avenue. The footage ends with Harris falling to the ground.
Responding officers found Harris bleeding on the sidewalk near Lincoln Road and began administering first aid until paramedics arrived.
Ghaffar told police that Harris struck him with a metal thermos during the altercation. Meanwhile, Harris, who is homeless, admitted to stealing sandwiches and juice totaling $17.45 from the nearby 7-Eleven.
During a search, police found a small bag of crack cocaine in Harris’s pocket before he was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Harris later accused Ghaffar of stabbing him, which led to both being arrested minutes apart—Harris at 11:24 p.m. and Ghaffar at 11:27 p.m.
According to Miami-Dade County jail records, Ghaffar was booked at 5:35 a.m., and Harris at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Harris is facing charges of battery, possession of cocaine, and petit theft, with a bond set at $3,650. Ghaffar has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bond is $2,500.
