A 35-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase in Henry County, Virginia Wednesday night.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said officers attempted a traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. on February 11 after observing a vehicle traveling 81 mph in a 60 mph zone near A.L. Philpott Highway and Stoney Mountain Road. Rather than pull over, the driver accelerated and turned onto Stoney Mountain Road, prompting a pursuit that reached speeds over 100 mph. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a wooded area in front of The Refuge Center for Deliverance.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Germaine Junior Woods, fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Authorities discovered he had four outstanding warrants: one from Martinsville for failure to appear and three from Franklin County for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine.
Woods sustained minor injuries and was taken to SOVAH Martinsville for evaluation before being transported to the Henry County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
Investigators from the Virginia State Police responding to the crash found two firearms in Woods’ vehicle: a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver and a Diamondback 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The Diamondback was confirmed stolen out of Henry County.
Woods, who has multiple prior non-violent felony convictions, is now charged in Henry County with:
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Felony eluding police
Driving while license suspended or revoked
Receiving a stolen firearm
Reckless driving
Driving while intoxicated
The investigation remains ongoing.
