NUUANU, Hawaii (Island News) — Honolulu police have arrested Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old Maui man, after he allegedly attempted to kill his wife during a morning hike at Pali Lookout on Oahu.

Attack at Pali Lookout
Authorities say Konig and his 36-year-old wife were hiking when he allegedly tried to push her off the trail. When she resisted, he reportedly struck her in the head with a rock.

Emergency responders rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for serious head and facial injuries. She remains in critical condition, according to officials.

After the attack, Konig fled on foot near Pali Highway, prompting an extensive police search. Authorities released a description, stating he was last seen at 10:30 a.m. wearing a light gray shirt, blue shorts, and carrying a black bag.

Honolulu police later apprehended Konig, and charges against him are pending.
