AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) — Authorities in Aiken County have dismantled what they describe as a “major drug operation” following a large-scale seizure on May 6. Narcotics Investigators say the bust uncovered hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of marijuana and THC-infused products shipped from California.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) began investigating after receiving a tip about a suspicious shipment—a pallet en route to North Augusta, suspected to be filled with marijuana.

The seizure led to the arrest of 23-year-old George Huntington of Warrenville, who has been charged with trafficking in marijuana.

According to ACSO, the following items were confiscated:

70 pounds of hybrid marijuana

5 pounds of marijuana resin

2,500 THC-infused gummies

5,000 THC vape pens

The total estimated street value of the drugs is around $500,000.

“This is a significant victory in our ongoing fight against the illegal drug trade,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, adding that law enforcement will continue to collaborate with community members and agencies to keep local neighborhoods safe.

The investigation was conducted with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
