Newtown Man Faces Felony Animal Cruelty Charges

by Sophia Bennett

A Newtown Township man is facing felony charges after allegedly stabbing two family dogs to death inside his home.

George Gooch Ash, 40, of Essex Place, was formally charged on January 22, 2025, with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals. His arraignment is scheduled for a later date.

“This was not just inhumane—it was sadistic,” said District Attorney Jennifer Schorn at a press conference held Wednesday. “I commend the Newtown Township Police Department and the Bucks County SPCA for their exceptional work, and we intend to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law.”

The investigation began on Saturday, January 18, when officers responded to a 911 call at 5:29 p.m. from a man later identified as George Ash at 25 Essex Place. Details of the incident have not been fully disclosed, but authorities confirmed the dogs were found deceased from stab wounds inside the home.

The case has sparked public outrage and raised renewed calls for strong enforcement of animal cruelty laws in Pennsylvania.
