PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla., Jan. 20, 2026 — Gelvin Dortch, a Black male, was arrested Tuesday evening on multiple serious charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated stalking, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and unlawful discharge of a firearm, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO). The arrest is recorded under Report No. 294239.

Authorities allege Dortch planned and carried out a homicide, engaged in stalking behavior involving credible digital threats, and possessed firearms and/or ammunition despite being prohibited as a convicted felon. Investigators also say he allegedly discharged a weapon in a public or residential area.

PBSO officials highlighted the gravity of the charges, noting that first-degree murder carries the most severe penalties under Florida law, including life imprisonment or, in certain cases, the death penalty. Aggravated stalking and weapons violations carry additional potential criminal penalties.

Details regarding the victim, the circumstances of the arrest, and Dortch’s prior history have not been released. Authorities emphasized that the case is under active investigation and encouraged anyone with information to contact PBSO.

This arrest underscores ongoing law enforcement efforts to address violent crime and maintain community safety in Palm Beach County.
