DENVER — A former Army sergeant who previously served time in military prison for a fake ticket scheme is now accused of running a similar scam while on felony probation.
Multiple women across the Front Range told Denver7 Investigates that Gavin Pobst, convicted in 2024 of larceny and wire fraud in military court, solicited money for tickets to concerts, games, and rodeos that were never delivered.
Since his release from military prison in January, Denver7 has received a steady stream of reports from alleged victims. Many say they met Pobst on dating apps and were persuaded to send money via Venmo and other payment platforms.
One woman, who asked to be identified only as McKenna, said she paid for Rockies tickets but grew suspicious when Pobst requested more money and access to her account. Another victim, Jessica Warren of Parker, said she and her fiancé sent $125 for Broncos tickets in January, only for Pobst to disappear without delivering the tickets.
Police departments in Arvada, Broomfield, and Colorado Springs confirmed ongoing investigations. Arvada Police reported at least one confirmed case of a $140 loss and urged anyone who believes they may be a victim to come forward.
Pobst’s prior convictions included larceny and wire fraud in military court, resulting in nine months of confinement and a bad conduct discharge, as well as identity theft charges in El Paso County that placed him on felony probation. Critics question why new allegations have not yet led to probation sanctions.
Dana Wilks, deputy director of probation services for the Colorado Judicial Department, stated that there is no statewide policy on when to file for probation revocation. Officers may exercise discretion at various stages of a new case.
Attempts by Denver7 to reach Pobst were unsuccessful. Victims hope that sharing their experiences publicly will prevent others from being defrauded.
