In a shocking case of fraud, a 37-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Nashik district, Gaurav Ramachheshwar Mishra, was arrested for posing as an IPS officer and swindling a local businessman out of Rs1 crore. The police revealed that Mishra, who used a forged identity card, wore a police uniform and drove a vehicle equipped with a beacon to deceive the businessman. He claimed to be an inspector general on the Indian Railway Board.
According to the police, Mishra had befriended the complainant in 2018 and slowly earned his trust over time. Mishra convinced the businessman that he had influential connections within the Indian Railways and promised him a lucrative railway contract. He then managed to extract the large sum of Rs1 crore from the businessman by convincing him to make several payments under different pretexts.
After realizing that he had been defrauded, the victim demanded his money back. In a bid to silence the complainant, Mishra reportedly called him to a hotel on October 13, where he threatened him with a revolver. Mishra also demanded a further Rs5 lakh per month in extortion money and threatened to register fake rape cases against the businessman, leveraging his alleged influence in the police department.
The victim finally reported the matter to the authorities, leading to Mishra’s arrest. He was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (Indian Penal Code) for fraud, extortion, and criminal intimidation. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about Mishra’s activities.
