Police in Prayagraj arrested four alleged burglars involved in a jewellery shop theft and recovered gold and silver ornaments from their possession.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of the Special Operation Group (SOG), surveillance unit and the Cantt Police Station. The arrested suspects were identified as Gaurav Kanojia (24) from Attarsuiya, Bakridul Seikh alias Popo (21) from Jharkhand, Sameeul Seikh alias Chotu (20), and Parvez Alam alias Tauseef alias Nepali (21) from Kareli.
During the arrest, police recovered around 450 grams of gold and 1.8 kilograms of silver ornaments believed to have been stolen during the burglary. Authorities said they are still searching for two other accomplices who remain at large.
According to investigators, the gang carried out a burglary at a jewellery shop near Ganganagar on February 13 within the jurisdiction of Cantt police station. The shop owner filed a complaint, after which an FIR was registered under Sections 331(4), 305(A), and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unknown suspects.
Police said the burglars broke open the shop’s shutter during the night and fled with gold and silver ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees.
Following the complaint, two police teams were formed to investigate the case. Using surveillance inputs and intelligence gathering, officers tracked down the suspects and arrested them.
During the operation, police also seized two motorcycles and a sharp-edged weapon allegedly used in the crime. Officials added that the arrested suspects have previous criminal records.
Police said further investigation is underway to locate the remaining accused and determine whether the gang was involved in other theft cases in the region.
