KENLY, N.C. — A break-in at a vacant residence outside Kenly has resulted in the arrest of a Selma man after stolen property was found listed for sale on social media, according to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested Gary Wayne Johnson, 53, of Micro Road West, on October 3 in connection with the theft. Johnson faces charges of felony breaking and entering and two counts of felony larceny.

The investigation began after the property owner on Creech Church Road reported on September 17 that someone had broken into the home and stolen approximately $11,650 worth of property. The stolen items included two lawnmowers, two air compressors, a pressure washer, a generator, a backpack leaf blower, and a weed eater.

Detectives received a lead when the victim spotted some of the stolen items listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Authorities recovered about $1,850 worth of stolen property during the investigation.

Johnson was booked into the Johnston County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond. The case remains under investigation.
