Gary Goyette, 30, of Worcester, who was previously convicted in a 2015 shooting that blinded a teenager, was arrested again on April 21 in Shrewsbury. Police say Goyette was seen trespassing through neighborhoods, peering into vehicles, and hiding in bushes before fleeing on foot. After a police perimeter was established and a drone was deployed, he was located near Route 140 and Merriam Avenue.
Following a chase, Lt. Kevin Caviston tackled Goyette as he attempted to escape through a fence. Officers say he was found with stolen items, including cellphones, debit cards, and belongings with other individuals’ names.
Goyette now faces multiple new charges including receiving stolen property over $1,200, carrying a dangerous weapon, trespassing, and resisting arrest. He also had two active warrants — one related to assault and battery, and another stemming from probation violations tied to his 2015 conviction.
In 2021, Goyette was sentenced to five to seven years in prison for shooting his 15-year-old friend in the face. He was released on probation and has since had several legal issues, including a history of non-compliance, mental health struggles, and recent drug use, according to court documents.
He is currently being held on $2,500 bail at Westborough District Court.
