In a bizarre yet significant theft case, Yerawada Police have arrested Ganpat Mangilal Dangi (44), a resident of Vitthal Nagar on Sinhagad Road, for stealing large quantities of undergarments and clothing from textile shops across Pune city.

A case had already been registered at Yerawada Police Station regarding the theft of garments worth over Rs8 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, a police patrol team located Dangi near Kalyaninagar, the site of a previous theft involving a branded clothing store.

Upon spotting the police, Dangi tried to flee but was caught after a brief chase. During interrogation, he confessed to his identity and admitted to his involvement in several thefts.

In custody, police recovered garments worth Rs7.3 lakh from his possession. The stolen items included men’s and women’s undergarments, T-shirts, night pants, and other apparel, confirming his connection to the previously registered case.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner Himmat Jadhav, and Assistant Commissioner Pranjali Sonawane. Senior officers Ravindra Shelke, Pallavi Meher, and Vijay Thakar, along with their teams, played key roles in the arrest and recovery.

Further investigation is underway to determine if Ganpat Dangi is linked to additional thefts or part of a larger network targeting textile shops.
