In a swift operation, Patapur police in Ganjam district seized ganja and arrested one individual during routine checking and road-blocking on Monday. The contraband was reportedly being transported from Mohana towards Berhampur in an auto-rickshaw when authorities intercepted the vehicle.
Acting on intelligence inputs, officers had set up a blockade near Podamari outpost. During the inspection, they discovered a significant quantity of ganja hidden inside the three-wheeler. The accused was taken into custody, and the vehicle was seized. Police are investigating to trace the smuggling network involved.
Earlier, in another major crackdown, Ghantapada police in Boudh district seized approximately 70 kilograms of ganja from a motorcycle during late-night patrolling on the Ghantapada–Uden Road. The accused, identified as Birendra Pradhan, was immediately arrested.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the cannabis was intended for inter-district illegal trading, and authorities suspect the accused may be part of a larger smuggling network operating across Odisha.
Officials hailed both operations as significant steps in curbing narcotics trafficking in the region and emphasized that further investigations are ongoing.
