A gang of six individuals, including a 15-year-old boy, was arrested by the police for committing a burglary at a house in Kanjikovil, near Perundurai in Erode, a week ago. The gang was traced by the police after one of the members used a stolen mobile phone with a new SIM card, leading authorities to their arrest.

The burglary took place at the house of Rajendran (60), a retired court staff member, in the Mullampatti area of Kanjikovil. On April 10, Rajendran had left for Chennai with his family to visit his son. When he returned, his neighbors informed him that the back door on the first floor of his house was open. Upon checking, Rajendran discovered that Rs 26,000 in cash, three watches, and a mobile phone had been stolen. He immediately filed a complaint at the Kanjikovil police station.

The stolen mobile phone was found to be active, which led the police to track down the gang of six. The accused individuals were identified as Selva (24), Ramesh (24), Sakthivel (29), Siranjeevi (37), M Kumar (26), and the 15-year-old boy, all residents of Thoraipakkam in Chennai.

According to the police, the gang had traveled from Chennai to Coimbatore to visit a private yoga center. On their way, they stopped near Mullampatti on the Salem-Cochin National Highway to rest. Noticing that Rajendran’s house was locked, the gang scaled the back pipe of the house, entered through the back door, and committed the theft.

“The stolen mobile phone, which had a new SIM card, made it easier for us to trace the gang,” said a police officer. “This group already has a history of criminal cases in Chennai.”

The police arrested the gang on Saturday, and further investigations are underway. The authorities are continuing to examine the connections between the gang members and their previous criminal activities.

This incident highlights how modern technology, such as mobile phone tracking, plays a key role in solving crimes and bringing criminals to justice.
