Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: The Gajuwaka police have arrested five individuals, including the main accused, in connection with a job fraud that duped a local couple of Rs 91.30 lakh.
According to police, Vinayaka Rao, a B.Tech graduate from Gajuwaka, and his wife Alekhya, a nursing student, were promised employment at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by their relatives, Sajani and Narayana. The couple was asked to pay Rs 50 lakh each in phases as part of the bogus employment process.
Trusting the assurances, the couple transferred Rs 91.30 lakh over time. Subsequently, the accused ceased communication and switched off their mobile phones, prompting the couple to approach the police on September 30.
Investigations revealed that the perpetrators used the funds to buy assets and vehicles. Sajani reportedly purchased two plots in Pedagantyada, while Narayana invested in heavy vehicles.
The police have recovered the properties and arrested all five suspects, including those who assisted in laundering the money. The case highlights the growing trend of fake job scams exploiting gullible victims in Andhra Pradesh.
