In a shocking incident in Etawah, police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his 78-year-old father and attempting to disguise the crime as an accident.

The charred body of Munna Lal (78) was discovered on January 27 inside a tubewell room in a field at Niloi village under the Jaswantnagar police station limits. Initially, his son Gajraj Singh filed a complaint against unidentified individuals, claiming he found his father’s burnt body after noticing smoke coming from the room.

Police found the lower half of the body completely charred, along with a bloodstained stick and blood marks at the scene, raising suspicion.

During the investigation, officials learned that Gajraj was unemployed, struggled with alcoholism, and was heavily in debt. He had reportedly attempted to sell his father’s land to repay loans, but Munna Lal refused, leading to frequent arguments between them.

During interrogation, Gajraj allegedly confessed that on the night of January 26–27, he attacked his father with a stick, killing him. He then placed the body on a bed, covered it with a sack and quilt, and set it on fire to stage the incident as an accidental blaze.

SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava confirmed that Gajraj Singh was arrested from Niloi village on Wednesday. A case has been registered under charges including murder, and the accused has been sent to jail.
