Shimla Police have once again arrested a repeat drug trafficker, Gagan Bhushan, under preventive detention provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act), officials announced on Wednesday.
Bhushan, a resident of Bejori village in Rohru tehsil, was taken into custody and sent to jail for three months. Authorities said the preventive detention was necessary after he was repeatedly found involved in trafficking heroin, commonly known as “chitta,” despite multiple prior arrests.
Records show Bhushan has been named in several ND&PS Act cases:
March 25, 2019: Arrested at Jubbhal Police Station with 3.25 grams of heroin.
July 17, 2022: Arrested at Rohru Police Station with 51.33 grams of heroin and another case involving 118.97 grams.
February 14, 2023: Seized 2.10 grams of heroin and 113.78 grams of charas from his possession.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh emphasized that preventive detention is part of a broader effort to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent further illegal activity. He added that the district police are maintaining a zero-tolerance policy on narcotics to safeguard youth and public safety.
