A traffic stop in Freeport escalated into a dramatic chase and drug arrest on March 6.
Damon Stib, 49, was pulled over by Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office for two separate violations in the Dollar General parking lot near S. Galena and S. Armstrong avenues.
During the stop, a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of a controlled substance. Stib reportedly fled on foot but was tased after a brief chase. An ambulance was called, though he refused medical attention, and no deputies were injured.
Once apprehended, deputies recovered approximately 74.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine that Stib discarded during the chase.
He is charged with:
Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance
Possession of a controlled substance
Illegal transportation of adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle
Resisting/obstructing a peace officer
Stib was booked into Stephenson County Jail without bond and is scheduled for an initial court appearance on February 10.
