A Canyon County jury has found 41-year-old Francisco Torres-Rodriguez guilty of first-degree murder for the killing of his wife, Reyna Quintero, in September 2023 at their home in Caldwell, Idaho.
According to the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Torres-Rodriguez fatally shot Quintero, 34, in the head as she prepared for a night out with friends after deciding to leave him. Prosecutors said he attempted to stage her death as a suicide in a calculated effort to mislead authorities.
During the trial, witnesses testified about Torres-Rodriguez’s disturbing behavior following the shooting. Evidence presented included surveillance footage showing him smoking a cigarette calmly after the incident, rather than contacting emergency services. Prosecutors also revealed that he manipulated his daughter into discovering Quintero’s body, further compounding the emotional trauma.
Torres-Rodriguez had pleaded not guilty in August 2024. He is now scheduled to be sentenced on August 8 and faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Boyd praised the outcome, calling attention to the broader issue of domestic violence. “This conviction sends a strong message to potential perpetrators in Canyon County: you will not get away with it,” he stated. Boyd also commended the cooperation between prosecutors and the Caldwell Police Department in securing justice.
Quintero’s death is another tragic reminder of the dangers of domestic violence, a crime that often goes unseen until it’s too late.
