Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Francini Demétrio Sitas, 23, has been remanded in custody following allegations of drugging, robbing, and assaulting a French tourist in Rio de Janeiro.
Known in the criminal underworld as the “Queen of Goodnight Cinderella,” a local slang referring to date-rape drugs such as Rohypnol or GHB, Sitas allegedly targeted the victim in the Lapa neighborhood.
According to police, she was accompanied by two women when she approached the Frenchman. After socializing and drinking together, the victim lost consciousness during the night and woke up in hospital with multiple injuries.
Police chief Patrícia Alemany confirmed that Sitas stole over £6,680 from the victim and made unauthorized withdrawals totaling more than 50,000 reais using his bank card.
Sitas reportedly has dozens of previous offenses involving similar scams and exclusively targets foreign tourists. She was caught at Rio’s Pedra do Sal tourist spot with clonazepam, a sedative drug, in her possession, suggesting she was seeking new victims.
A mother of a two-year-old, Francini’s arrest raises hopes of curbing this form of criminal activity, which has affected multiple tourists in the city.
