Four individuals pulled off a daring heist by uprooting and stealing an ATM from a bank kiosk in Govindpuri, southeast Delhi, on Thursday, taking away Rs 3.71 lakh from the machine.

The incident was reported at 5:50 am when a call was made to the Govindpuri police station, informing them about the stolen ATM. The caller confirmed that the ATM had been uprooted, and upon investigation, authorities confirmed that the machine was removed from the kiosk.

DCP (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh stated, “According to technical surveillance, the theft occurred between 4 am and 4:30 am.” Four suspects arrived in a car, entered the ATM kiosk, and after a brief period, drove off with the ATM machine. A bank employee confirmed the ATM contained Rs 3.71 lakh at the time of the theft.

A case has been filed, and the police are working to identify the criminals and recover the stolen ATM as soon as possible. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the gang’s escape route.

This heist follows another recent ATM theft in north Delhi’s Wazirabad area, where an engineer and a BSc graduate were arrested for stealing an ATM containing Rs 29 lakh. The police recovered the stolen machine and cash after the criminals dumped it in an old well.

The series of ATM thefts coincides with alarming findings from a Delhi Police crime branch survey last year, which revealed significant security weaknesses at ATMs across the city. The survey, covering 5,452 ATMs, found over 2,000 had no security guards, more than 900 lacked CCTV cameras, and over 2,700 did not have shutter locks.
