Four Men Arrested in Pittsburgh Mail Theft Probe

Suspects linked to armed robberies targeting postal workers

by Sophia Bennett

Four men have been arrested in connection with a mail theft investigation in the Pittsburgh area following a series of armed robberies targeting postal workers.

On June 4, a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service was threatened at gunpoint in Bridgeville. Two days later, another worker was robbed at gunpoint at the Upper St. Clair Post Office.

Authorities have since taken into custody 20-year-olds Mar’Sean Barkley and Ronin Kelley, along with 18-year-olds Mar’Quan Davis and Devin Hasley.

Marcella Swigart shared her shock after learning a Father’s Day card she mailed, containing a $40 check, was found inside a car stopped by Mt. Lebanon police. The card had been mailed from her local post office.

“My mail was found in a car, and they were trying to link robberies or something like that,” Swigart said. She described the situation as “unreal” and expressed her disbelief.

A local Mt. Lebanon resident reported suspicious activity near the Cedarhurst Post Office, describing two men in black running between a vehicle and the post office. Police stopped the car and discovered Swigart’s empty envelope inside.

Police revealed that during the robbery at Upper St. Clair, suspects escaped with post office skeleton keys, which can open multiple locks. These keys have been used in at least three mailbox thefts in the area in the past month.

Swigart advised caution: “Don’t mail anything other than a card. Don’t send money or checks; use Venmo or Zelle.”

Although one suspect is connected to last week’s armed robbery and attempted robbery, no charges have been filed for those crimes at this time.
