A gang of four men has been arrested by Chennai police for allegedly stealing mobile phones by exploiting crowds at Tasmac liquor outlets in the city.

The suspects, identified as Giridharan (24), Saravanan (24), Ranjith (33) from Tondiarpet, and Vinoth (27) from Old Washermenpet, were apprehended following a complaint and investigation led by Anna Salai Police Station.

The case began when Jeeva (48), an engineer residing in Krishnaveni Nagar, Mugalivakkam, reported his iPhone stolen while returning from a Tasmac outlet on G.P. Road, Anna Salai on October 1.

Police seized ten mobile phones, one auto-rickshaw, one two-wheeler, and a knife from the accused during the arrest.

Based on CCTV footage and inquiries, the suspects were tracked and arrested, helping curb the recent surge in mobile thefts at crowded liquor outlets.
