Patna police have arrested four people, including a minor, in connection with the murder of Upendra Manjhi (49) during a wedding ceremony in Nadiyona village, Nalanda district. The incident occurred late Wednesday night under the jurisdiction of Dipnagar police station.
According to authorities, the victim was attacked with sticks and an axe following a dispute over accidentally touching a woman while dancing to DJ music at the wedding. After the initial altercation, Upendra returned home, but the accused and about 15 others reportedly followed him, dragged him outside, and assaulted him further, causing severe head injuries.
Police stated that when Upendra tried to escape towards a nearby river, the attackers chased him and allegedly killed him by repeatedly striking him with sticks and rods.
Upendra’s son explained, “A wedding procession of Ashok Manjhi’s son arrived after a religious ceremony. My father came from the procession, parked his bike, and went to dance. While dancing, he accidentally touched the daughter-in-law of Harimuni, which sparked the altercation.”
Dipnagar SHO Rajmani said that police acted promptly, arresting the main accused, his three sons, and a minor. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. The situation in the village is currently under control, and police are conducting raids to apprehend other individuals involved in the attack.
