In a major breakthrough, four burglars, including a minor, were arrested on Thursday for their involvement in six thefts over the last two weeks in Jeypore town. The accused have been identified as Bijaya Beniya, Kanhu Muduli, G Satyanarayan Patra, and a minor from Hatapada.
The gang is believed to have targeted various businesses in the area, committing multiple burglaries. In one incident, they broke into a tractor company in Hatapada and stole Rs2.5 lakh in cash. They also raided a marble showroom, taking a mobile phone, a printer, and a cash counting machine. The gang was involved in another theft of Rs92,000 worth of chocolates from a store on NKT Road.
In addition, the group stole 31 smartwatches from a Yamaha showroom in Bariniput and a home theatre system from a shop on Bypass Road.
The breakthrough came after CCTV footage from multiple locations around the town helped track the gang down. Koraput SP Rohit Verma confirmed that the footage played a crucial role in identifying the burglars.
