The city police on Wednesday busted a cyber fraud racket worth Rs 5 crore operating through an international scam network linked to China, arresting four members involved in the operation.

DCP (South) Rajashi Raj Varma revealed that the gang supplied bank accounts to online scammers, who routed the fraud money all the way to handlers in China. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a flat near Kamla Nehru Bridge and seized Rs 7.7 lakh in cash, 28 ATM cards, 23 chequebooks, 10 mobile SIM cards, and forged rental agreements used to legitimize fake companies.

The key accused, Sunil Jakhar, allegedly ran a shell company to launder money earned from online scams. He converted the illicit funds into cryptocurrency (USDT) and transferred it to Chinese handlers.

“The gang leased bank accounts across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Jharkhand, luring villagers with monthly payments ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000. They collected signed cheques, ATM cards, and SIMs linked to these accounts, withdrawing laundered cash and sending crypto codes to China for commissions,” DCP Varma explained.

The four arrested suspects were identified as Sadasukh Vishnoi, Anku Chandolia, Kamal Kumawat, and Kamlesh Verma. All were detained for leasing their bank accounts to the fraud network.

This operation is tied to scam call centres in China that use WhatsApp and Telegram to lure Indians into fake stock and real estate investments, coercing victims to transfer money to mule accounts operated by this gang.

So far, 19 cyber fraud complaints have been connected to the seized accounts. Authorities are pursuing further investigations to trace the gang’s cryptocurrency trail and China links. The gang is also suspected of frequently changing their residences to evade detection.
