In a major breakthrough, four suspected robbers were arrested by the Ghaziabad Police following an encounter near Tronica City on Wednesday morning. The group, who had been involved in a robbery at a jewelry store in Ghaziabad last month, was apprehended after a gunfight with police, during which two of the suspects were injured.
The robbery, which occurred on April 12 in Mangal Bazaar, Pooja Colony, involved three masked men who entered a jewelry shop, held the shopkeeper and an employee at gunpoint, and made off with six boxes filled with silver and gold ornaments. The stolen goods weighed approximately 4.5 kg.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural), Surendra Nath Tiwari, confirmed that the police received intelligence that the gang was planning to move the stolen silver to Baghpat district for sale. Based on this tip-off, a joint operation was launched by the Ghaziabad Police and the SWAT unit, setting up a roadblock near Tronica City.
When a motorcycle with three riders approached the checkpoint, the police signaled them to stop. However, the suspects attempted to flee, leading to a gunfight. Two of the robbers, identified as Amir (27) and Ritesh (26), were shot in the legs during the exchange of fire and were later arrested. The third suspect, Deepak Pal (31), was apprehended after attempting to escape on foot.
Another accomplice, Sunil alias Kaloo (31), was arrested in a separate incident, while one gang member, Akash alias Baavla, remains on the run. Police also recovered three pistols, a motorcycle believed to have been used in the robbery, and multiple rounds of live and spent cartridges from the suspects.
The 4.5 kg of silver ornaments that were stolen from the jewelry shop were found in a backpack the suspects were carrying. The police continue to investigate the incident and track down the remaining gang member, Akash.
