Four Arrested in Fake Job Scam, Stranded Youths Deceived by Consultancy

Consultancy promised overseas jobs but left youths stranded

by Ananya Mehta

Four employees of a Dehradun-based job consultancy firm, Work Abroad Consultancy Pvt Ltd, have been implicated in a fraudulent scheme that swindled over 40 youths, including several from Nepal, with promises of overseas employment. The accused include Ankul Saini, his wife Tarana Saini, her brother Lavi, and Priyanshu Nishad, who are now on the run.

The scam was exposed after a viral video shed light on the plight of two youths, Surjit Singh Negi and Chaman Singh Rana from Tehri Garhwal. In the video, they claimed to have been stranded in Armenia after being lured with promises of jobs that never materialized. The youths revealed that they were given fake job offer letters before leaving for Armenia, where no employment awaited them.

According to Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh, the consultancy firm, run by the Saini couple and their associates, attracted job seekers through social media advertisements and videos. They would lure them with the promise of high-paying overseas jobs, fast-tracking their visas, and sending them abroad. However, upon arrival, the victims found no jobs and were abandoned.

Following the viral video and a covert investigation by the police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), a raid was carried out at the consultancy’s office in Subhashnagar, Dehradun. Police seized 68 passports, including three from Nepalese nationals, fake job offer letters, blank cheques, and a laptop, all pointing to fraudulent activity.

An FIR has been filed, and a case of fraud and forgery has been registered against the accused. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the suspects are underway. Authorities are urging job seekers to verify employment opportunities thoroughly before committing to avoid falling victim to such scams.
