CARSON CITY, Nev. — Four individuals were arrested early Tuesday morning following a deputy contact that led to the discovery of a stolen U-Haul and felony drug offenses.

Kyle Scott Steenfott, 37, of Sparks was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, four counts of possession of identifying documents of an older person, possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Richard Eddy, 53, Richard Bryan Lewellen, 25, and Kathleen Powell, 40, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, at around 11:14 p.m. on March 19, a deputy observed a U-Haul truck backing into a parking spot in the 2100 block of East William Street. Two men were seen inside the truck’s cab. As the deputy circled back, he saw the men standing in front of the truck, and one of them closed the roll-up door. The deputy made consensual contact with Steenfott, who claimed to be using the U-Haul to move furniture to Silver Springs.

The deputy requested to search the truck and found Lewellen and Powell inside the back of the U-Haul. After a second unit arrived for assistance, a search of Steenfott led to the discovery of a small clear bag containing a white crystalline substance, later identified as methamphetamine. Steenfott also had a Nevada driver’s license and social security card that did not belong to him, which he claimed to have been left by a person he was caring for.

A check of the U-Haul’s plates revealed it had been reported stolen from Reno on March 23. A search of the vehicle uncovered several methamphetamine-related items, including glass pipes and a long plastic tube with drug residue.

All four individuals were arrested and booked into jail. Steenfott’s bail was set at $10,000, while Lewellen, Powell, and Eddy each had a $2,500 bond.

In unrelated incidents, deputies also arrested a 34-year-old woman for multiple offenses, including obstruction and disturbing the peace, and a 50-year-old woman for misdemeanor trespassing. A 55-year-old woman was arrested for a parole violation and contempt of court.
