In a major breakthrough, the Sarkhej Police Station in Ahmedabad dismantled a theft ring by arresting four suspects involved in numerous robberies across the city. Authorities recovered stolen goods valued at Rs1.1 lakh, including 21 mobile phones and cash.
The investigation began on December 13, 2024, after Ajay Kumar reported an armed robbery near SP Ring Road. He was assaulted by four men who stole his mobile phone, Rs8,000 cash, and a Redmi phone worth Rs5,000. The attackers escaped on a Bajaj Platina motorcycle.
Guided by senior officials, Sarkhej Police formed four teams to probe the case. Using CCTV footage and IMEI tracking of stolen phones, the police identified and arrested Harshil Sharma, Prashad Bhunkar, Sunil Khokharia, and Ashish Bhunkar near Mamatpura Bridge.
Recovered from the suspects were 21 stolen phones, Rs13,000 in cash, and the motorcycle used in the crimes. The IMEI tracking linked the accused to several unsolved thefts in Ahmedabad.
Police Inspector R K Dhuliya revealed that the accused, originally from Rajasthan, lived in Ahmedabad as daily wage laborers and waiters. They targeted isolated locations at night to rob victims.
The suspects are under interrogation for involvement in further robberies, and police are probing possible connections to a wider theft network in the city.
